Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts

To those of you who knew, and to those of you who didn’t. I auditioned for PCPA Theatrefest in February and received a call back for March and have been waiting to hear if I was accepted or not.

I had to do 2 monologues and sing a song, I sang the last bit of Defying Gravity. Here are my results.

March 31, 2005

Dear Aiyani:

Congratulations! We are pleased to accept you to the 2005/06 Conservatory class at PCPA and look forward to sharing with you the next two years of artistic and professional growth. Welcome to your role as part of the legacy of great theater and great training at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts.

At PCPA we train actors as artists – to be ready to respond to the demands of the play with their imagination, intellect, emotion, body, voice and whole expressive capability – to their greatest potential. The capacity for this response is developed and tested through experience. At PCPA you will learn by doing, with individual guidance from practitioners of the art. Welcome to this place on the path of your life-long journey to excellence. I believe you will exit the program well equipped for the artistic and professional journey ahead. The incoming Conservatory class will be comprised of approximately 30 actors and 15 technical theatre students. We will begin the school year on Tuesday, August 16th, 2005, with a series of orientation sessions alternating with beginning studio work and opportunities to see final performances of the 2005 summer repertory season in Santa Maria and Solvang (Brigadoon, Picasso at the Lapin Agile and My Way). Please plan to be settled in Santa Maria before August 16th so you are ready to begin the year’s work that morning.

We would like to hear from you within one week of your receipt of this offer to secure your place in the incoming 2005/06 class. In the event that you are weighing other training options please contact us immediately – we may not be able to hold your place. Please contact me directly to confirm your position, if you have any questions, or if there is anyway that I can assist you in your decision making. Email will be the most efficient way. Reach me at mbooher@pcpa.org. You can also contact me by telephone (you’ll likely get my voicemail) at 805-928-7731 ext. 4116. Please also contact me if you are unable to accept, so that we can quickly contact an alternate. This is quite important, as you can understand. Once we have received the confirmation and secured your position, we will send additional information (and more forms for you to complete!) in June regarding housing, books, supplies, fees, schedules and preparation ideas.

This selection and acceptance of the 2005/06 Conservatory class is part of an exciting and challenging time in the American theatre and at PCPA. The painstaking search for exactly the right class for this artistic and educational journey is resulting in an exceptional and diverse class of students whose talent is matched with serious intent – exactly as we had hoped. We are honored to embark on this journey with you and are pleased to commit the next two years to fostering your growth and development as an artist of the theatre.

Thank you for your patience and your trust. We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Booher
Conservatory Director – Acting
